Welcome to JSLIS

Since 1953, the Japan Society of Library and Information Science (JSLIS) has been the academic society for researchers, educators, and professionals, which leads the way for the progress of better theories, models, and practices to improve access to libraries and information. Our mission continues to be to contribute to the progresses of library and information science. Following activities are being conducted to fulfill the mission:
- Publishing Journal of the Japan Society of Library and Information Science (originally published as the Annals of Japan Society of Library Science since 1954, changed to the current name in 1999); JSLIS Newsletter; JSLIS Mail Magazine; and Frontiers of Library and Information Science (Monographic series)
- Holding an Annual Conference and a Spring Research Meeting every year,
- Promoting collaborative research activities
- Promoting cooperation with relevant organizations in Japan and overseas, and
- Supporting other activities recognized as beneficial for attaining the mission.

Brief History
|
JSLIS was established on June 4, 1953 as the Japan Society of Library Science (JSLS), which was renamed as Japan Society of Library and Information Science (JSLIS) on October 1, 1998, and celebrated the 50th anniversary since its founding.
